catholicism is the only real religion for alcoholics.

the first public miracle by jesus was to change water into wine. more importantly wine was used in the last supper to represent his blood sacrifice. so no celebration of mass is possible without wine. in the soviet bloc wine had to be smuggled to imprisoned catholic priests so that masses could be celebrated in the camps.

i fondly remember how the irish lasallian brothers got drunk every founder's day in school. leaving home as young men, living out their lives far from home, educating, inculcating, dying and buried in foreign soil. the fact that these brothers were committed educators and wonderful men has educated all and converted many.

on this good friday i raise a toast to these men who had chosen to follow their lord and master in giving their all for others in the name of love.
